Should you display your rates on your website? I see this question floating around all over the place, and it seems like everyone has an opinion on the matter. There’s no right or wrong answer; it’s a little more complex than that.
When it comes down to it, it really is dependent on who your ideal is. Are they scouting websites, looking for rates, or are they paying more attention to your portfolio?
But I don’t contact people if they don’t display their rates! Well, are you your ideal client? I’m not. I could never afford me!
Personally, I prefer not to display my rates because my ideal client is looking for more than just what I charge. For others, however, displaying their rates is important because it flushes through those that can’t afford them from the beginning (and saves everyone a lot of wasted time).
Some things you should think about before making the decision whether or not to display your rates on your website:
- What types of services do you offer? Do you have specific packages that are one-size-fits all, or do you prefer to build packages based on your clients’ individual needs?
- What types of weddings do you specialize in? Obviously those with lower budgets are going to be more concerned about the cost, which is totally okay! Just something for you to take into consideration.
- Does your competition display their rates? If everyone else in your area does, it may be a turnoff if you don’t.
If you do decide to post your rates, be sure to mention that these are not firm! They are just a starting rate – that way you won’t get into hot water if a client thinks that they will be paying one thing (as displayed on your website), when in reality the services they are booking you for cost more than that.
